“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”
On June 3, 2020 I attended the Paddle Out for Unity in solidarity with Black Lives Matter at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, CA. This experience was incredibly inspiring but also reminded me that there is so much more work that needs to be done. At the request of a dear friend, I’ve decided to sell prints of a few of the photographs I took at this event. All proceeds will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, which is America’s premier legal organization fighting for racial justice. Through litigation, advocacy, and public education, LDF seeks structural changes to expand democracy, eliminate disparities, and achieve racial justice in a society that fulfills the promise of equality for all Americans. LDF also defends the gains and protections won over the past 75 years of civil rights struggle and works to improve the quality and diversity of judicial and executive appointments.
Beyond the immediate impact of monetary donations to the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, my hope is that those who order these photographs hang them in their home and upon seeing them each day, remember the important work that lies ahead and continue, time and again, to recommit to the fight for racial justice in the United States. This mission is called the “Waves of Change Project,” as I hope that today’s currents drive waves of change in the United States.
